Reverend Father Joseph Szewczwy, Senior Associate
My
name is Fr. Joseph Szewczwy. I have been helping out with the liturgies at St.
Hugo’s since 1970, so many of you have already met me. Effective immediately,
I have been appointed the retired, Associate Pastor at St. Hugo of the Hills.
My origins are Eastern European. I was born in
Poland in 1932. Having fulfilled all requirements for the priesthood, I was
ordained in 1955. My graduate and post-graduate theological studies were
completed in Lyon, France, where I received a Doctorate in Theology. I studied
in Rome, Jerusalem, Germany and France.
Since 1970, I have been working here at St. Hugo,
celebrating daily Masses at 6:15 a.m., and 8:30 a.m. on Saturdays. Also, I
taught Theology and Scripture full-time at St. Mary’s Seminary in Orchard
Lake, as well as being a visiting instructor at the University of Detroit,
Madonna College and St. John’s Seminary in Plymouth.
It is now with joy and anticipation that I tell you
I have been appointed full-time as your retired Associate Pastor, on the staff
of St. Hugo’s, under the leadership of Msgr. Tocco. I will be fully dedicated to the care of the
suffering members of our parish, and I ask you to support me with your prayers.
Thank you.
May the invisible One, the risen Lord, manifest
Himself through the visible faith community at St. Hugo of the Hills parish, and
receive from Him creative and saving love, giving spiritual birth to the next
generation of the Mystical Body.
