FAQS

FAQS

Q. What is St. Hugo Youth Group?

A. St. Hugo’s Youth Group seeks to lead young people into a personal relationship with Christ. Nurtured through prayer, works of service, and inclusion in the parish community, the youth will are encouraged to live out their God-given gifts and talents, are led to an awareness of their place in the Church, and are taught how to apply what they believe in faith to their day-to-day experiences.

Q. Who is Youth Group for?

A. Youth Group is open to all high school age students (freshmen-seniors) from both public, private, and home-school. While sponsored by a Catholic Church, one need not be Catholic to attend.

 Q. Isn't Youth Group just another religious education class?

A. Many high school students attend a Catholic secondary school and are required to take classes in theology, Scripture, and morality. Youth Group is not to be seen as just another religion class or an extra religion class. While there are catechetical aspects, all are aimed at leading the young people to grow in their relationship with Jesus and their participation in the life of the Church. Service opportunities, community building, prayer and worship all enhance their spiritual and personal growth, and anything that allows for further nurturing and growth goes a long way in forming them to be Christian disciples.

Q. Why are meetings on Sunday evenings?

A. Sunday is the Lord's day. A day of rest. A day to spend time with the Lord, family members, and friends. The lives of young people are particularly busy. With homework, sports, and other activities, the life of a teenager is very active. Before the start of another school week, our Sunday gatherings offer the teens the opportunity to begin the week well, with prayer and spiritually-uplifting conversation for the week ahead. Our meetings include dinner and snacks, and this year, will end at 7:30PM--allowing the teens to spend the remainder of the early evening at home with family, and also providing the time necessary to complete school work. Still, there is no definite arrival/departure time. If one can come for a half hour, it means a lot for the group as a whole.

Q. What service opportunities are available?

  A. We are working with many organizations within the parish to assess how the youth will be able to participate in areas of service. Updates will be offered on this website. Large group service opportunities we are looking into include the Capuchin Soup Kitchen, Gift Baskets, and Gleaner's Food Bank. If parents are willling to provide transportation, please let Fr. Michael know. Your help will make many more of these large group service opportunities possible.
