St. Hugo of the Hills Catholic Church

    In ancient times, the Processional Cross was the basic Christian symbol used at the altar. After leading the community into their gathering place, it was prominently positioned for the rest of the ritual action. Surrounded by so many images of the cross, the earliest Christian communities nonetheless gave the place of honor to the one cross that led them in procession and that provided a focus during every ritual.
