  Sunday Contribution Report

The Stewardship Commission is a service group to the Parish Pastoral Council, and to the other commissions of the Council. It plans and recommends actions on parish financial support and the effective management and use of parish resources. The Stewardship Commission is concerned with three broad areas:

bullet

the effective utilization of parish resources;

bullet

the budget; and

bullet

Church financial support.

Rooted deeply and firmly within Scripture and our Catholic Tradition, is the vision that we are expected to be faithful stewards of all we are and all we have. God has always had faithful stewards down through the ages who made the best use of their talents, the time allotted to them and the treasures they possessed in His service. All of them have their own place in the wonderful plan of salvation. The names of some of them have been preserved for posterity Most of them are unknown, except by God — Whom they so faithfully served! One does stand out. Jesus is the outstanding Steward in Salvation History

It is the life and mission of Jesus, which gives the stewardship concept its deepest and fullest meaning. The Lord not only serves as the best example for all other stewards, but by being faithful in His Stewardship He has made it possible for us, in Grace and Fellowship, to be faithful stewards. It is for this reason that Jesus’ disciples, the apostles and the spiritual leaders of the Christian Communities of Faith that followed them are all described, time and time again, in stewardship terminology

As Christian stewards we realize that we are blessed and gifted by God, as individuals and as members of Our Parish. We do not stand alone. We are not, nor can we be sufficient unto ourselves. We are members of the Church to share and support our belief and life in Jesus, Who is Lord. Practical, realistic stewardship demands a free-will sacrifice of OUR TIME, OUR TALENTS AND OUR TREASURES as a personal response to the needs of Our Parish.

Bulletin Announcement
This week and next, all parishioners will receive a personal letter from me asking for your increased support for St. Hugo Parish. As we plan for the coming year, such an increase is necessary if we are to continue the services and programs that we offer. The support of St. Hugo parishioners is very generous and truly appreciated. However, every couple of years, inflation catches up with us, and we have to ask you to “adjust” your support level a bit.

Please read the information included in the letters that you will receive and respond as quickly as possible. Note that a response will not be requested until the second week.

Please reflect carefully on your level of support and whether it is possible to offer a bit more to your Parish at this time. Please pray for the success of this Drive – especially that the 40% of our Parish who do not regularly contribute will begin to accept their share of the responsibility for enabling St. Hugo Parish to continue in its mission of worship, education and service.

I know that there are many of our parishioners who care deeply about our Parish, and who will support it to the best of their ability. We thank you for this, and look forward to your response to our Appeal at this time. A generous response will help us to plan for the next couple of years with security and confidence.

Cheers in the Lord,
Fr. Tony, Pastor
(dated Sept. 5, 2004)

The New Role of Stewardship
The new role of stewardship is a return to the old role of stewardship. We are called to be different; we are called to be stewards of this Church and soldiers in the army of Christ. Our faith serves as central command --- the world represents our battlefield. (more)

Together In Faith
With fewer priests, changing demographics, and demands on financial resources, Together in Faith, a strategic planning process for the Archdiocese of Detroit, is now underway. Together in Faith is designed to secure the future of the Archdiocese of Detroit. Catholic leadership from the parishes and schools are now participating in regional meetings and have begun receiving the workbooks and statistical information they will need to assist them in the planning process. Following a yearlong self-assessment phase, Cardinal Maida will present a blueprint of the strategic plan in Advent 2005. Additional information on Together in Faith is available at www.AODonline.org.
