Vocation Awareness Committee
Many priests and religious will tell you that before entering religious life, they felt unworthy of such a calling. Yet, St. Paul tells us that he boasts of his weaknesses because he knows that God?s grace is enough (2 Cor 12:7-10). Saint or sinner, you may be called to the priesthood. The St. Hugo Parish Vocations Awareness Committee was formed in 1992. It is a part of the Education Commission. Its objective is "To work with parents and children to bring an awareness of call to serve in the priesthood, permanent deaconate and religious life, and to encourage those vocations through prayer and invitation."  If you wish to join this committee, which meets about four times a year to plan and execute programs aimed at its objective, please contact the parish office (248) 644-5460.

The priest shortage we are facing in our dioceses is very real. Already the Archdiocese of Detroit has formed a group that will visit all parishes and begin planning on ways of dealing with the decline in members including consolidation and closings.

"Try It On!: The Priesthood"
This campaign is designed, by the archdiocesan, to raise awareness and encourage the participation of all Catholics in identifying potential candidates. If you are a man, 16 years or older and unmarried, and have ever thought about becoming a Catholic priest, Cardinal Maida and your parish community encourages you to "Try It On!" The archdiocesan vocations office offers many opportunities to help you explore whether God is calling you to the priesthood.

If you are related to, work with, or know someone you think would make a great priest, take the opportunity to tell him so. It is a real compliment to him and an affirmation of the value you place on the Catholic priesthood. For priests, as ministers of sacred things, are first and foremost ministers of the Sacrifice of the Mass: the role is utterly irreplaceable, because without the priest there can be no Eucharistic offering. Vocations Committee 31 Club
Pray for Vocations. Our church is in need of Vocations to the priesthood and religious life. Please support this need by pledging your prayers. There will be cards for parishioners to sign up to just PRAY on at least one day per month. Nothing else is required. Add your name to the 31 Club board in the gathering space. Thank you!! St. Hugo's 31 Club is committed to praying for Vocations at least one day per month.

Discernment Weekend
