Vocation Awareness Committee
Many priests and religious will tell you that before entering religious life, they felt unworthy of such a calling. Yet, St. Paul tells us that he boasts of his weaknesses because he knows that God’s grace is enough (2 Cor 12:7-10). Saint or sinner, you may be called to the priesthood. For more information, contact the Vocation Office at (313) 237-5875 or visit their website, The Official Web Site for the Archdiocese of Detroit. "Go out to the world, proclaim the good News to all Creation." (Mk 16:15)

The St. Hugo Parish Vocations Awareness Committee was formed in 1992. It is a part of the Education Commission. It’s objective is “To work with parents and children to bring an awareness of call to serve in the priesthood, permanent deaconate and religious life, and to encourage those vocations through prayer and invitation.” If you wish to join this committee, which meets about four times a year to plan and execute programs aimed at its objective, please contact the parish office (248) 644-5460.

Parents For Vocation
The priest shortage we are facing in our dioceses is very real. Already the Archdiocese of Detroit has formed a group that will visit all parishes and begin planning on ways of dealing with the decline in members including consolidation and closings. Parents for Vocations meet the first Saturday of the month at 7:30 a.m. in the large conference room. All are welcome.

try_it_on"Try It On!: The Priesthood"
This campaign is designed, by the archdiocesan, to raise awareness and encourage the participation of all Catholics in identifying potential candidates. If you are a man, 16 years or older and unmarried, and have ever thought about becoming a Catholic priest, Cardinal Maida and your parish community encourages you to "Try It On!" The archdiocesan vocations office offers many opportunities to help you explore whether God is calling you to the priesthood.

If you are related to, work with, or know someone you think would make a great priest, take the opportunity to tell him so. It is a real compliment to him and an affirmation of the value you place on the Catholic priesthood. Please use the response cards available here at the parish to let Cardinal Maida know who this special person is. www.vocationsdetroit.org or http://tryiton.aod.org.

The Permanent Deaconate
From the beginning in the Church, God called certain men from the community to be consecrated for preaching the Gospel, administering the sacraments and caring for the needs of the community — some for service as bishops, others as priests and some for service as deacons.
